Apple is set to introduce a revamped Mail app with the upcoming macOS 15.4 update, expected to launch in April 2025. According to a Bloomberg report, this update will bring a long-awaited feature to Apple Mail that automatically sorts emails into categories. Similar to Gmail’s tabbed interface, the update will scan incoming emails and organize them into four main categories: Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. Users will still have the option to view all their emails in a unified inbox, streamlining email management. The feature is expected to be available on older iPad and Mac models, even those without Apple Intelligence support, making it more accessible to a wider range of users. However, emails in languages other than English may not be categorized properly.
While the macOS 15.4 update is the highlight, Apple is already beta testing macOS 15.3, which includes a few minor features like Genmoji for Mac, but the revamped Mail app will not be available in this version. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new Mail features will roll out soon with macOS 15.4, expected to enter beta testing in the coming weeks.
In addition to this, Apple’s iPhone version of the Mail app already includes features such as Smart Replies, which analyze email content and generate quick responses, and Priority Messages, which highlights important emails. These enhancements help streamline email management, making the inbox more organized and user-friendly. This revamped Mail app was initially introduced at the 2024 WWDC, alongside iOS 18 and Apple’s new AI suite, Apple Intelligence, which will also include more advanced features like context-aware Siri and integrations with Google’s Gemini AI.
