Pune Police launched an investigation Sunday after sacked IAS trainee Puja Khedkar reported a dramatic burglary at her family’s Baner Road bungalow. Khedkar alleged a recently hired Nepali domestic servant drugged her parents Dilip and Manorama Khedkar, tied her up, and fled with family mobile phones Saturday night around 11:30 pm.
Khedkar claims the servant administered sedatives rendering her parents unconscious before binding her. She freed herself using a door latch and contacted Chaturshringi police station using a spare phone. Responding officers found Dilip and Manorama unconscious; both received hospital treatment and stabilized. A watchman was discovered unconscious in the parking lot.
The suspect, employed just eight days prior, remains at large. Police noted Khedkar provided verbal details only, promising a written complaint once mentally stable. No further theft inventory disclosed. CCTV footage review underway alongside servant background verification.
Puja Khedkar’s Controversial Background
The 2023-batch Maharashtra cadre probationer grabbed headlines in 2024 for indiscipline including unauthorized Audi beacon and government insignia use. Transferred from Pune to Washim over demands for separate office, staff, and quarters entitlement violations.
UPSC cancelled Khedkar’s CSE-2022 candidature in September 2024, permanently barring future exams after finding fraudulent OBC and disability quota benefits. She secured All India Rank 821 through alleged misrepresentation. Delhi Police filed FIR on UPSC complaint; Bombay High Court granted anticipatory bail to father Dilip in separate road rage case.
Police Investigation Progress
Chaturshringi team secured the bungalow scene. Brothers Vinay and Harshad Budhwant present during police visit. Driver Dadasaheb Dhakane and cook Sujit Roy also reportedly sedated. Multiple family members and staff unconsciousness suggests coordinated attack.
No arrests reported Monday morning. Nepali embassy contact considered given suspect nationality. Khedkar family maintains low profile amid ongoing UPSC legal battles. Incident timing coincides with Q3 earnings season distracting financial media from bureaucratic controversies.
The burglary revives scrutiny on Khedkar household security protocols given high-profile status and prior legal entanglements. Police anticipate written complaint formalizing charges including assault, robbery, and criminal trespass.
