BigBasket, the online grocery platform backed by the Tata Group, is gearing up to enter the quick-commerce space with a nationwide 10-minute food delivery service. This move is aimed at capturing a significant share of India’s rapidly growing $7.1 billion quick-commerce market and competing directly with established players like Swiggy’s Snacc, Blinkit’s Bistro, and Zepto Cafe.
The company has already started a pilot program for the service in select areas of Bengaluru. The offerings include food and beverages from Tata Group’s hospitality brands, such as Starbucks and Qmin. Following the pilot, BigBasket plans to scale up operations by setting up 40 dark stores by the end of July 2025. To support this rapid delivery model, the company is looking to increase its total number of dark stores from the current 700 to between 1,000 and 1,200 by the end of the year.
As part of its strategy, BigBasket is consolidating its delivery platforms by merging its Super Saver (slotted delivery) and BB Now (quick commerce) services into a single user interface. This will make the 10-minute delivery option the default across the app. The integration also supports an extensive product catalogue, with BigBasket offering over 30,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) in the quick-commerce category—more than Blinkit’s 25,000 and Zepto’s 10,000.
The quick-commerce division, BB Now, now contributes about half of BigBasket’s overall sales. The company is projecting that this vertical alone will generate approximately $1 billion in sales out of its $1.5 billion target for the current fiscal year. To streamline operations, BigBasket is establishing warehouse-linked clusters where multiple dark stores are supported by a central storage hub, enabling a broader SKU range and faster replenishment. There are also plans to double BB Now’s product selection to between 25,000 and 30,000 SKUs.
In addition to this aggressive growth in the quick-commerce sector, BigBasket is laying the groundwork for an initial public offering (IPO), which is expected within the next 18 to 24 months. The company currently operates in over 30 cities across India and processes approximately 15 million orders per month.
By launching its 10-minute food delivery service and investing heavily in infrastructure, product range, and digital integration, BigBasket is positioning itself as a strong contender in India’s competitive quick-commerce ecosystem. The company’s long-term vision includes not just dominating grocery deliveries but also becoming a comprehensive platform for fast, convenient food and beverage services nationwide.
