Ola Electric Launches Affordable Gig and S1 Z Series Scooters to Accelerate EV Adoption Across India

Ola Electric, India’s largest pure-play electric vehicle (EV) company, has unveiled its latest range of electric scooters aimed at revolutionizing the mobility sector with affordable, durable, and flexible solutions. The new Ola Gig and S1 Z series are designed to cater to a wide range of customers, including gig workers, urban commuters, and small business owners, while accelerating the adoption of electric mobility in both urban and rural areas.

The new range consists of four models – Ola Gig, Ola Gig+, Ola S1 Z, and Ola S1 Z+ – available at an introductory ex-showroom price starting from ₹39,999 for the Ola Gig. Reservations for all models are open now, with a nominal fee of ₹499. Deliveries of the Ola Gig will begin in April 2025, while the Ola S1 Z series will be delivered starting May 2025.

Affordable, Practical, and Flexible Solutions

Ola Electric’s new offerings promise to democratize EV access with affordable price points, starting as low as ₹39,999 for the Ola Gig. The scooters come with removable batteries and cater to both personal and commercial use cases, providing a solution for various customer needs across urban, semi-urban, and rural regions.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, emphasized the company’s mission to drive EV adoption in India. “At Ola, we are committed to taking the EV revolution to every nook and corner of the country. With the launch of the Ola Gig & S1 Z range of scooters, we will further accelerate EV adoption, catering to a wide range of personal and commercial use cases with affordability, reliability, and safety as the core pillars,” Aggarwal said. He added that the portable batteries in these scooters can also double up as inverters using the Ola PowerPod, enabling users to power small appliances and devices, enhancing the value proposition of these scooters, especially in areas with unreliable electricity supply.

Key Features of the Ola Gig and S1 Z Series

  • Ola Gig: Aimed at gig workers engaged in shorter trips, the Ola Gig features a robust design, a removable 1.5 kWh battery, and an IDC-certified range of 112 km. It offers a top speed of 25 kmph and comes at an introductory price of ₹39,999. This model is ideal for B2B purchases and rentals.
  • Ola Gig+: Designed for gig workers who need to travel longer distances with heavier payloads, the Ola Gig+ offers a top speed of 45 km/h and a dual 1.5 kWh battery setup for an impressive range of up to 157 km. It is priced at ₹49,999 and is available for B2B use.
  • Ola S1 Z: This personal-use scooter is built for urban commuters, combining style, performance, and convenience. It features dual removable 1.5 kWh batteries with a total range of 146 km and a top speed of 70 kmph. With a price tag of ₹59,999, it offers an ideal alternative to entry-level internal combustion engine (ICE) scooters.
  • Ola S1 Z+: The Ola S1 Z+ is a versatile scooter designed for both personal and light commercial use. With a rugged build, 146 km range, and a top speed of 70 kmph, this scooter is built to cater to small business owners and local shopkeepers. It is priced at ₹64,999.

Introducing the Ola PowerPod

Ola Electric is also introducing the Ola PowerPod, a versatile power source that allows the removable battery of the Ola Gig and S1 Z series to be used as an inverter. With a maximum output of 500W, the PowerPod can power essential devices such as lights, fans, and Wi-Fi routers, offering a valuable solution in semi-urban and rural areas with inconsistent power supply. The Ola PowerPod is priced at ₹9,999.

Expanding the Portfolio

In addition to the new Ola Gig and S1 Z series, Ola Electric continues to offer a broad range of scooters in its S1 portfolio, catering to various customer needs, including the premium S1 Pro and S1 Air, as well as more affordable models like the S1 X series. Ola has also announced its upcoming Roadster motorcycle series, with models starting from ₹74,999.

Ola Electric’s latest announcements further solidify its position as a key player in India’s EV market, with a strong commitment to making electric mobility accessible to all, from gig workers to daily commuters and small business owners.
