In a surprising move, Apple has quietly discontinued the sale of its MacBook Air M2 and M3 models just one day after introducing the highly anticipated MacBook Air with the new M4 chip. Until yesterday, both the MacBook Air M2 and M3 were available for purchase directly from Apple’s website, but they are now no longer listed.

The MacBook Air M2, which was launched in 2022, and the MacBook Air M3, released in 2024, are no longer available for purchase as new units from Apple. However, Apple fans looking for these models can still find them through Apple’s refurbished store, and they may also be available on third-party platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, as well as at physical retailers such as Reliance and Croma stores.

M4 Chip Takes the Spotlight

Apple has positioned the new MacBook Air with the M4 chip as the next-generation powerhouse in the lineup. The M4 chip is touted to be up to 23 times faster than Intel-based MacBooks, offering significant performance improvements over its predecessors, including the MacBook Air M1. Additionally, Apple claims that the M4 is twice as fast as the M1 MacBook Air, delivering better processing power, enhanced graphics, and a more efficient computing experience.

While Apple has highlighted the performance leap from Intel-based Macs and the M1 model, it has not provided a direct speed comparison between the M4 and its immediate predecessors—the M2 and M3 models. However, the performance improvements are clear, especially in terms of power efficiency and overall processing speed.

External Display Support Upgraded

One of the more noticeable upgrades in the M4 MacBook Air is its ability to support two external monitors while the lid is open. This was a limitation in the M3 model, which could only connect to two external displays when the laptop’s lid was closed. This feature makes the M4 a more versatile option for users who need to extend their workspace with multiple external monitors.

Pricing and Availability

The new MacBook Air M4 is priced at Rs 99,900 for the base model and is available for pre-order now. Apple has confirmed that the M4-powered MacBook Air will be available in stores starting March 12.

Though the MacBook Air M2 and M3 are no longer available directly from Apple, potential buyers can still find them from various authorized resellers and online stores. However, with the introduction of the M4, Apple seems to be phasing out these older models, marking a significant shift towards its latest technology.
