Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), a key player in the Adani Group, announced on Tuesday that it has won a groundbreaking ₹25,000 crore contract for the Bhadla (Rajasthan) to Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh) High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project. This marks the largest order in AESL’s history and further strengthens its position in the energy sector.

The project, part of the Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part I, involves developing a 6,000 MW HVDC system spanning 2,400 circuit kilometres (ckm) with a 7,500 MVA transmission capacity. This initiative will facilitate the evacuation of 6 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Renewable Energy Zones (REZs), connecting them to the national grid and addressing the energy demands of North India. The project is expected to be completed within 4.5 years.

With this win, AESL’s order book now stands at an impressive ₹54,761 crore, underlining its growing portfolio of large-scale projects. AESL’s transmission network has expanded to 25,778 ckm, with a transformation capacity of 84,186 MVA.

Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL, emphasized the project’s role in India’s decarbonisation efforts, stating, “By enabling efficient evacuation of renewable energy from some of the most inhospitable regions of the country and connecting them to the national grid, AESL is playing its role in India’s decarbonisation journey.” He also highlighted that the company will deploy latest technologies to ensure timely project delivery with minimal environmental impact.

AESL secured the project through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, with REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) as the bid process coordinator. The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)for the project was officially transferred to AESL on January 20, 2025.

This win marks AESL’s third HVDC initiative after the successful completion of the Mundra-Mahendragarh project and the ongoing Aarey-Kudus project, which is being executed by its subsidiary, AEML. AESL is the sole private-sector company in India to own HVDC assets, a technology preferred for long-distance power transmission.

This major achievement positions AESL as a key player in India’s renewable energy landscape, contributing to the nation’s push towards sustainable and efficient energy transmission.
