Goldman Sachs Offloads 53.4 Lakh Shares of Foodtech Giant Eternal in ₹168.7 Cr Block Deal

Global investment banking firm Goldman Sachs has sold 53.4 lakh equity shares of foodtech major Eternal in a substantial block deal valued at approximately ₹168.7 crore.

According to National Stock Exchange (NSE) transaction disclosures, Goldman Sachs carried out the divestment via its European entity, Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE, offloading the shares at an average price of ₹316 apiece. The transaction price represented a discount of over 2.6% compared to the stock’s previous closing price on Thursday. The entire block was acquired by Bank of America through its institutional affiliate, BofA Securities Europe.

Series of Large-Scale Exits Amid Market Demand

The transaction marks the second major block deal observed in Eternal’s shares over the past two months. In early September, French lender BNP Paribas and US-based hedge fund Millennium Management collectively offloaded more than 9.9 crore shares of the foodtech platform, realizing ₹3,264.8 crore.

Despite institutional profit-taking, market appetite for the stock remains robust. Eternal’s shares have gained nearly 10% over the trailing three months and are up 16.2% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis, reflecting persistent buying interest among institutional peers.

Quick Commerce Momentum Drives Revenue Trajectory

The sustained optimism around Eternal has been bolstered by strong operational and financial execution, particularly within its quick commerce division, Blinkit. The vertical has retained its market lead despite rising competitive intensity and aggressive expansion by players such as Rapido’s Ownly, Flipkart, and Swish.

The growth is underscored by solid bottom-line and top-line prints. For the first quarter of FY27, Eternal delivered a consolidated net profit of ₹92 crore, a nearly 3.7-fold increase from the ₹25 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. Operating revenue climbed 182% year-on-year (YoY) and 17% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to touch ₹20,211 crore during the same period.

On the bourses, Eternal’s stock had settled 2.77% higher at ₹324.35 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Thursday prior to the execution of the block deal.
