City of London Police Officer Acquitted of Rape and Assault Charges

City of London PC Daniel Condon found not guilty of 2 rape counts, ABH at Kingston Crown Court. Staines 2022 incident acquitted Jan 7. Misconduct probe ongoing.

A City of London police officer has been cleared of serious criminal allegations following a high-profile trial. Daniel Condon, 37, from Horley, was found not guilty by a jury at Kingston Crown Court on January 7 of two counts of rape and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The charges stemmed from an alleged off-duty incident in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, on May 14, 2022. Condon, a PC with the City of London Police, denied all accusations throughout the legal process, which began with his charging in early 2024 and included court appearances at Guildford Crown Court.

The acquittal ends nearly four years of scrutiny for Condon, who maintained his innocence from the outset. While the criminal case concludes, a separate City of London Police misconduct investigation into the matter continues, as per standard procedure for officers facing such allegations.

The verdict highlights ongoing debates around police accountability and the challenges of prosecuting historical assault claims. Condon’s legal team expressed relief, noting the jury’s decision after careful deliberation of evidence presented over multiple hearings.
