Bharti Airtel adds over 19 lakh users in Oct, Vodafone Idea loses 19 lakh subscribers: TRAI

Bharti Airtel has reported a significant rebound in its subscriber base, adding 19.28 lakh users in October, according to the latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released on December 23. This marks a stark contrast to September, when the company lost 14.35 lakh users. Airtel’s market share now stands at 33.5%, trailing behind Reliance Jio, which, despite losing 37.60 lakh users in October—an improvement from its September loss of 79.7 lakh—retains the largest market share at 39.9%.

Vodafone Idea faced a loss of 19.77 lakh subscribers, increasing from a loss of 15.5 lakh in September, resulting in a market share of 18.30%. Meanwhile, state-owned BSNL saw a modest gain of 5 lakh users, down from 8.5 lakh in September.

As of October 31, 2024, private operators collectively held a commanding 91.78% market share of wireless subscribers, while BSNL and MTNL accounted for just 8.22%. Following the TRAI report, shares of all three telecom companies rose nearly 2%. Notably, Bharti Airtel leads the machine-to-machine (M2M) connections segment with a market share of 51.82%, highlighting its strong position in the evolving telecom landscape.
