A MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Agra in Uttar Pradesh on Monday afternoon. The aircraft, which had taken off from Adhampur in Punjab, was reportedly en route to Agra for a scheduled exercise when the incident occurred. Fortunately, the pilot managed to eject safely from the aircraft.
Defence officials confirmed the crash, stating, “A MiG-29 fighter jet has crashed near Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The pilot has ejected from the plane. The plane had taken off from Adampur in Punjab and was en route to Agra for an exercise when the incident happened. More details awaited. A Court of Inquiry will be ordered.”
An Indian Air Force (IAF) spokesperson added, “A MiG-29 aircraft of the IAF crashed near Agra during a routine training sortie today, after encountering a system malfunction. The pilot manoeuvred the aircraft to ensure no damage to life or property on the ground, before ejecting safely. An enquiry has been ordered by the IAF to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
As investigations are set to begin, further details regarding the incident are anticipated.
