The majority of Instagram’s users have resumed access to the service, according to Meta Platform Inc.’s announcement on Sunday. This came after a technical problem that had previously caused disruptions to the service for thousands of users.
“Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted,” a Meta spokesperson told Reuters.
The company did not disclose the number of users who suffered from the outage. According to the downtime monitoring website Downdetector.com, there have been more than 100,000 instances in the United States, 24,000 in Canada, and over 56,000 in the United Kingdom.
At the height of the outage, more than 181,000 users reported having trouble logging into their Instagram accounts.
According to the website Downdetector.com, which monitors service disruptions, Instagram stopped working for some users at about 5:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (2145 GMT) on Sunday. As of 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, there were slightly more than 7,000 complaints of power disruptions.
Downdetector is able to monitor outages because it compiles status updates from a variety of sources, including the users themselves.
