FaceTime is coming to Apple TV with tvOS 17

FaceTime will soon be available on Apple TV, according to Apple. A brand new FaceTime application will be made available as part of a future update for tvOS 17, which will allow you to make video calls on your large-screen television using the camera on your iPhone or iPad.

Apple is making use of its Continuity Camera feature so that you can start the FaceTime app on Apple TV, and it will wirelessly connect to your iPhone or iPad. This allows you to video chat with friends and family without having to pull out your phone. You can even use your Apple TV to take a call that is now being received on your iPhone and transfer it to another device.

The primary FaceTime user interface on Apple TV automatically centres speakers and even adjusts the frame to accommodate additional participants if they join the call. Because SharePlay is available on this platform, you may even watch movies and TV episodes together with friends or family members through FaceTime while using a side-by-side interface. This is in addition to the fact that you can use any and all of the standard FaceTime effects that you use on your phone.

Apple has also said that it will make its Continuity Camera Application Programming Interface (API) available to developers for use with Apple TV. Other video chatting applications, such as Zoom and Webex, are able to build their own tvOS apps as a result of this, taking advantage of the cameras on the iPhone and iPad.

The new FaceTime app that will be available for Apple TV will be included in the tvOS 17 update that will be released later this year.
