Apple is introducing M2 Max and M2 Ultra CPUs into the newest version of the Mac Studio desktop system. Although it looks identical to the M1-powered gadget released the year before, the small desktop Mac Studio has far more powerful CPUs on the inside. The upgraded Mac Studio will begin selling on June 13 and will start at a starting price of $1,999.

The M2 Ultra is the topic of discussion at the moment, and Apple has referred to it as “a monster of a chip.” It’s effectively two M2 Max dies joined together using Apple’s super fusion technology, and it has a 24-core CPU and up to a 76-core GPU that’s up to 30 percent quicker than the M1 super. Apple asserts that a single system equipped with this sort of GPU can train machine learning tasks that discrete GPUs are unable to perform owing to memory limits, and that it can do this using just one system.

This is due to the fact that the M2 Ultra supports up to 192GB of unified memory, which is a 50 percent increase above what the M1 Ultra could handle. In all, there is a memory bandwidth of 800 GB/s that is accessible, in addition to a neural engine with 32 cores and 134 billion transistors.

The M2 Ultra is intended to take the place of its predecessor, the M1 Ultra, which was capable of supporting up to 128GB of memory. A significant improvement over the first-generation M1, it had a graphics processing unit (GPU) with 20 cores, of which 16 were high-performance cores and four were efficiency cores.

The Mac Studio has been filling a need in Apple’s product portfolio for quite some time now for creative professionals, who generally go with the powerful Mac Pro hardware offered by the firm. Apple released an improved version of the Mac Pro in 2019, and the firm has now announced a whole new version of the Mac Pro that is powered by Apple Silicon.
