On Friday, Meta announced that it will be reducing the cost of its Quest 2 and Quest Pro headphones.
The 256GB Meta Quest 2 will go from $499.99 to $429.99, while the high-end Meta Quest Pro will go from $1,499.99 to $999.99.
In 2022, the Reality Labs division at Meta lost $13.7 billion. That’s the department at the firm that develops its grandiose metaverse systems. Sales of Quest headgear helped Reality Labs bring in $727 million in revenue during the last quarter of 2022, contributing to a total of $2.16 billion for the year, down from $2.27 billion in 2021.
Even though the Meta Quest Pro came out in October, most people couldn’t buy it because it was too expensive. There was no obvious use in the workplace, either. Because of the price drop, it may now appeal to both markets.
“Our goal has always been to create hardware that’s affordable for as many people as possible to take advantage of all that VR has to offer,” the company said in a release. On March 5, a new pricing structure will go into effect for the Meta Quest 2.
On March 5, shoppers in the United States and Canada will be able to view the updated pricing for the Quest Pro. Price reductions for the rest of the globe will take effect on March 15th.
