The Indian Premier League (IPL) said that the Mumbai Indians have signed Sandeep Warrier to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the 2023 season.Due to a back issue, Bumrah is still sidelined for the organisation; the great pacer hasn’t featured in a competitive match since September of last year. Warrier, who has played one T20I for India (in 2021), has played 68 T20s and taken 62 wickets. He has played five IPL games for the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Warrier played his first game for India in July 2021 at Colombo. It was against Sri Lanka in the shortest format. He played domestic cricket for Kerala before switching to Tamil Nadu in 2020.

On April 2, the Mumbai Indians will play an away game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Bumrah, 29, had back surgery in New Zealand earlier this year, ruling him out of the whole IPL as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) against Australia in June. Bumrah also missed the T20 World Cup last year and now faces a race against time to be ready for the ODI World Cup, which will be held in October and November of this year.

This week, Bumrah was seen at the Brabourne Stadium as the Mumbai Indians started getting ready for the 2023 season of the league.Jofra Archer, England’s standout speedster, will also make his debut for the club this season. MI acquired Archer before the previous season, but he was forced to miss the event due to an elbow injury.

The MI had its worst season in IPL history in 2022, finishing at the bottom of the table with just four victories in 14 games. At the auction before the 2023 tournament, the Mumbai Indians added to their team by getting Cameron Green, Australia’s best all-rounder, and Jhye Richardson, among others.
