WTC Final: Australia great pinpoints ‘Little Things’ that make Shubman Gill ‘Vulnerable’

One batter who will be the focus of a lot of attention during the final of the World Test Championship is Shubman Gill. Shubman Gill is one of the top players on the Indian cricket squad. The dazzling opening has been a wonderful experience over the course of the last year. Gill has shown that he is the next great thing in international cricket in every format of the game, including Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and even the just-finished Indian Premier League. As the WTC final draws closer, it is only natural that there are enormous expectations placed on the 23-year-old. This time, India will go up against Australia, led by Pat Cummins, in order to compete for a chance to break their ten-year championship drought in the ICC. However, before the final, Australia great and former India coach Greg Chappell pointed out a few areas that might be problematic for Gill. Chappell was the head coach of India during Gill’s time there.

“I have seen a little bit of him. I have seen him in Australia. The one thing that India has done well, probably any other team in world cricket, is that their developing players have played a lot of cricket. They have sure, they have played a lot of overseas cricket. So Shubman has played a lot of cricket,” Gregg Chappell said in an interview on ‘Backstage With Boria’.

“This is not his first trip to England. If the Australian bowlers perform well, he, like everyone else, will have a difficult time in English conditions. Bowlers that possess additional speed, such as Mitchell Starc, are the ones who are most likely to give him the most problems. The increased speed encourages excellent players to come out. The additional piece of bounce encourages excellent players to come out, and I believe that Hazlewood may be a challenge for Shubman to overcome if he is well enough to play. If Hazlewood does not play, then Boland will almost certainly take his place, and he is yet another bowler who is capable of giving anybody difficulty. He bowls a line that is effective. He bowls a really nice length that is suitable for English conditions.

“I don’t wanna go into too much detail but I’m sure the Australians must have seen a couple of things that I have seen. There are little things that Shubman does a few things early in his innings that makes him vulnerable to that length around off stump and if the ball bounces a little bit extra, I think he will susceptible to nicking off behind the wicket. That will be an area that the Australians will focus on. But he’s a very good player. If they don’t bowl well, he will punish them.”

This is India’s second appearance in the final of the World Test Championship. In the 2021 tournament final, New Zealand defeated India.
