Sensex jumps 96 pts at open, Nifty near 16,956

Even though global signs were mixed on Monday, the Sensex and Nifty were both up about 0.16 percent to start the day.The BSE Sensex rose 96.35 points, or 0.17 percent, to 57,623.45, while the NSE Nifty50 went up 27.60 points, or 0.16 percent, to 16,972.65.

At 9.26 a.m., the Sensex had erased its early gains and was almost level, while the Nifty50 was up 14.50 points, or 0.09 percent.

Broader markets were underperforming at the start, with the Nifty Smallcap 50 and Nifty Smallcap 250 down 0.47 percent, the Nifty Smallcap 400 down 0.33 percent, and the Nifty Midcap Select down 0.32 percent. Meanwhile, the Nifty 100 gained 0.11 percent, and the Nifty 200 gained 0.06 percent. The India Vix, on the other hand, rose 2.19 percent at the open.

At the outset, auto stocks were down 0.78 percent, with Mahindra & Mahindra down 1.95 percent and Eicher Motors down 0.84 percent. At the open, PSB stocks declined 0.56 percent, followed by consumer durables, which fell 0.55 percent.

The Nifty Healthcare Index went up by 0.43 percent, followed by pharmaceutical companies (+0.35 percent) and metal stocks (+0.29 percent).IT stocks gained 0.17 percent.

At the open, Apollo Hospitals was the highest gainer, up 1.27 percent. Hindalco increased by 1.08 percent, while ONGC increased by 1.07 percent. Power Grid, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, and Maruti Suzuki were also among the top gainers.

Titan, Adani Enterprises, Axis Bank, ITC, and Wipro were among the worst losers in the first trading session.
