Domestic equities opened virtually unchanged on Thursday as investors focused on the IT sector ahead of today’s quarterly report from HCL Technologies. The BSE benchmark Sensex opened 0.5% or 27.04 points higher at 59,594.84, while the broader NSE Nifty50 opened 0.95 points or 0.1% higher at 17,619.70.
At opening, the Nifty Healthcare Index fell 0.28 percent, and then the Nifty Pharma Index fell 0.21 percent. In the meantime, Nifty Realty fell 0.07 percent.
Following gains in Titan and Asian Paints, the indices gradually increased after opening unchanged. The Sensex rose 216.14 points, or 0.36 percent, to 59,783.94 by 9:25 a.m., while the Nifty rose 58.05 points, or 0.33 percent, to 17,676.80.
The Nifty IT index increased by 0.35 percent at the market’s opening. TCS was up 0.68 percent at the opening bell after a LinkedIn report named it the finest place to work in India. Wipro increased by 0.55 percent, while HCL Tech and Infosys traded nearly 0.30 percent higher at the opening bell.
Nifty Microcap 250 increased by 0.62 percent, Nifty Smallcap 250 by 0.47 percent, Nifty Midcap Select by 0.37 percent, and Nifty Smallcap 50 by 0.36 percent.
Titan, Asian Paints, ITC, L&T, TCS, Wipro, and Adani Enterprises were among the leading gainers at the start of trading today, while Divis Lab, Apollo Hospitals, Cipla, Eicher Motors, ONGC, Axis Bank, Reliance, Bajaj Finance, and SBI were the leading decliners.
